La storia segue le vicende di una giovane famiglia che vive in periferia. I coniugi Daniel e Lacy Barrett sono testimoni di una fitta serie di eventi, sempre più inquietanti, che li colpisce sconvolgendo rapidamente la sicurezza e la tranquillità della loro casa. La loro vita diventa un incubo da cui sembra impossibile svegliarsi: una spaventosa presenza terrificante e letale comincia a entrare ogni notte nella loro casa per rapire i loro figli. Isolati sempre di più dagli scettici amici e vicini, i due decidono di affrontare la questione in prima persona per proteggere la propria famiglia e risolvere il mistero che si cela dietro all’oscura presenza che li sta perseguitando.
