Nell'immaginaria cittadina californiana di Ithaca vivono il quattordicenne Homer Macauley e la sua famiglia. Siamo in piena Seconda Guerra Mondiale, ed il ragazzino cerca nonostante tutte le difficoltà di condurre una vita il più possibile normale, dividendosi tra l'impegno scolastico di giorno e l'attività di portalettere la sera. Homer è talmente veloce a recapitare telegrammi che in poco tempo diventa un fenomeno e il vero sostegno economico dei suoi cari. Per il talentuoso fattorino un giorno arriva una lettera destinata a cambiare per sempre la sua vita.
California in the imaginary town of Ithaca live fourteen year old Homer Macauley and his family. We are in the Second World War, and the boy tries against all odds to lead a life as normal as possible, dividing his time between the school day and the commitment of postmen activities in the evening. Homer is so fast to deliver telegrams, which quickly becomes a phenomenon and the real economic support of his loved ones. For the talented bellboy one day a letter arrived destined to change his life forever.
